Around the Raz today I saw - Great Tit, Blue Tit, Magpie, Wood Pigeon, Crow, Buzzard, Cormorant, Black-headed Gull, Blackbird, Willow Tit, Moorhen, Robin, Mute Swan, Canada Goose, Mallard, Tufted Duck, Coot, 2 male Goosanders, Starlings, Grey Heron and just I was coming to the end of my walk a small flock of Goldcrests appeared.

A few of us met at Blithfield on a very wet bank holiday for a mornings birding I saw -

On an early morning walk today I saw -Moorhen, Coot, Mute Swan, Mallard, Tufted Duck, Black-headed Gull, Dunnock, Wood Pigeon, Bullfinch, Magpie, Robin, Cormorant, Wren, Crow, Blackbird, there was a mixed flock of Long-tailed Tits, Willow Warblers and Blue Tits, I also saw a Kingfisher catch a fish and perch on a branch, sadly too far away for a photo! Further along the brook I saw a Grey Wagtail.

12/05/2014 Whisby Nature Reserve

Today a few of us met at Whisby to look for Nightingales we saw  Nightingale, Mediterranean Gull, Black-headed Gull, Canada Goose, Mute Swan, Oystercatcher, Wood Pigeon, Garden Warbler, Greylag Geese, Coot, Moorhen, Mallard, Chiffchaff, Long-tailed Tit, Robin, Magpie, Crow, Great crested Grebe, Blackcap, Tufted Duck, Gadwall, Common Whitethroat, Shoveler, Cormorant, Common Tern, Lesser black-backed Gull, Swift, Lapwing, Blue Tit, Pheasant, Jackdaw and Willow Warblers were heard.  I also saw a Stoat as it ran across the path in front of me.  

On a brief stop at Blithfield Causeway  I saw -2 Arctic Terns, 1 Sanderling, 1 Dunlin, Common Sandpiper, Oystercatcher, Common Tern and Pied Wagtail.

A mornings birding at Belvide produced -Tufted Duck, Great crested Grebe, Black-headed Gull, Gadwall, Canada Geese, Coot, Mallard, Velvet Scoter, Robin, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Long-tailed Duck, Teal, Grey Heron, Shoveler, Reed Bunting, Tree Sparrow, Lapwing, Lesser black-backed Gull, Pheasant, Oystercatcher, Cormorant, Crow, Little ringed Plover, Swallow, Blackbird, Moorhen, Chaffinch, Redshank, Greenfinch, Willow Tit, Wren, Treecreeper, Wood Pigeon, Blackcap, Rook and 3 new year ticks for me Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler and Common Tern.

This morning around the Raz there were -

Ladywalk we visited here on the way back home and I saw-

Blackcap, Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, Goldfinch, Crow, Pheasant, Pied wagtail, Coot, Mallard, Great crested Grebe, Greylag Geese, Canada Geese, Shelduck, Blackbird, Little ringed Plover, Buzzard, Magpie, Wood Pigeon, Mute Swan, Crow, Tufted Duck and an Osprey battling against the wind and rain much as we were, until we reached a hide where we waited for the rain to ease off, but we did get a good view of a pair of Common Scoter.

Today I saw - Green Woodpecker, Chiffchaff, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Robin, Great spotted Woodpecker, Tufted Duck, Mute Swan, Moorhen, Coot, Mallard, Canada Geese, Great crested Grebe, Black-headed Gull, Chaffinch, Blackbird, Wren, House Sparrow and several Blackcaps were singing.

Moorhen, Grey Wagtail, Chaffinch, Blue Tit, Crow, Goldfinch, Blackbird, Wood Pigeon, Rook, Long-tailed Tit, Mistle Thrush, Mallard, Canada Geese, Kingfisher, Magpie, Great Tit and the birds we really came to see Hawfinch and Dipper.

Tufted Duck, Lapwing, Cormorant, Great crested Grebe, Canada Geese, Great Tit, Common Gull, Oystercatcher, Coot, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Redshank, Goldeneye, Pheasant, black-headed Gull, Lesser black-backed Gull, Song Thrush, Robin, Snipe, Barnacle Geese, Tree Sparrow, Jackdaw, Starling, Reed Bunting, Pied Wagtail, House Sparrow, Mute Swan, Dunnock, Herring Gull, Mallard and I heard a Curlew.

Cannock Chase

On a short stop at Penkridge Bank CP I saw Brambling, Bullfinch and Stock Dove.

A large flock of Golden Plover were in the fields on the drive home.

I had a pleasant walk around the Razz this afternoon and I saw - 

2 Buzzards, Magpie, Wood Pigeon, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Blackbird, Robin, Chiffchaff, Chaffinch, Reed Bunting, Crow, 2 Canada Geese, Mallard, Coot, Tufted Duck, Mute Swan, Moorhen, Great spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, Wren, Little Grebe, Black-headed Gull, Lesser black-backed Gull, I saw 2 Goldcrests but heard several calling.

On a walk around the Raz this morning there were - Great Tit, Blue Tit, Reed Bunting, Chaffinch, Song Thrush, Blackbird, Wood Pigeon, Magpie, Coot, Mallard, Moorhen, 2 Canada Geese, Tufted Duck, 2 Teal, Buzzard, Mute Swan, Greenfinch, Great spotted Woodpecker, Green Wood Pecker, Crow, House Sparrow, Robin and a few Chiffchaffs were calling.

Today I spent the day at Belvide in the hope of seeing some new birds I saw -

Great Tit, Blue Tit, Nuthatch, Wren, Goldeneye, Coot, Black-headed Gull, Mute Swan, Great crested Grebe, Tufted Duck, Scaup, Canada Geese, Mallard, Moorhen, Crow, Rook, Jackdaw, Robin, Gadwall, Redwing, Blackbird, Lapwing, Wigeon, Cormorant, Snipe, Chaffinch, Pochard, Shoveler, Sparrowhawk, Reed Bunting, Oystercatcher, 2 Redshank, Pied Wagtail, Grey Heron, Pheasant, Buzzard, Long-tailed Tit, Willow Tit, Tree Sparrow, Goldfinch, Herring Gull, Lesser black-backed Gull, Dunnock, Teal, Wood Pigeon, Magpie, Chiffchaff, Great spotted Woodpecker, Coal Tit, 1 Long-tailed Duck, 1 Mediterranean Gull,  and 1 Velvet Scoter.  One year tick and one life tick made the day a very happy one.

Buzzard, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Goldcrest, Robin, Crow, Chaffinch, Great spotted Woodpecker, Wood Pigeon, Kestrel, Redpoll, Dunnock, Coal Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Goldfinch, Blackbird, Magpie, Rook and a Raven was heard.

Wolseley Bridge

Canada Geese, Mute Swan, Mallard, Moorhen Coot, Robin, Blackbird, Jackdaw, Black-headed Gull and the bird I really wanted to see a Kingfisher.

Late afternoon there was time for another look around the Cadet Huts area here I added Chiffchaff, Stonechat, Redwing and Jay to the days list.

Today at Attenborough I saw - Red-crested Pochard, Egyptian Geese, Common Gull, Mallard, Black-headed Gull, Coot, Moorhen, Canada Geese, Mute Swan, Gadwall, Snipe, Goosander, Teal, Magpie, Wigeon, Tufted Duck, Herring Gull, Pochard, Goldeneye, Great crested Grebe, Little Grebe, Wood Pigeon, Shoveler, Reed Bunting, Cormorant, Lapwing, Grey Heron, Crow, Tree Sparrow, Dunnock, Wren, Blue Tit, Blackbird, Song Thrush, Chaffinch, Long-tailed Tit, Robin, Wood Pigeon, Rook, Great Tit and Cetti’s Warbler were heard.

Cromford

This morning we all met at Cromford in search of Dipper and Hawfinch, I saw - 

Redwing, Mistle Thrush, Jackdaw, Crow, Magpie, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Mallard, Moorhen, Grey Wagtail, Wood Pigeon, Blackbird and after the meeting had finished my mate and I saw 1 Hawfinch, Thanks to a fellow birder who drew our attention to it!

In the afternoon I went over to Carsington and saw-

Pochard, Tufted Duck, Redshank, Lapwing, Oystercatcher, Jackdaw, Crow, Magpie, Wood Pigeon, Coot, Moorhen, Cormorant, Black-headed Gull, Lesser black-backed Gull, Goldeneye, Great crested Grebe, Mallard, Pheasant, Snipe, Long-tailed Tit, Tree Sparrow, Gadwall, Starling, Wren, Coal Tit, Chaffinch, Reed Bunting, House Sparrow, Great Tit, Blue Tit and Buzzard.

I had a late morning walk around the Razz today and saw - Redwing, Blackbird, Wood Pigeon, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Buzzard, Song Thrush, Green Woodpecker, Robin, 1 Canada Goose, Mute Swan, Mallard, Coot, Moorhen, 3 Goosander, Tufted duck, Black-headed Gull, Siskin, Grey Heron, Little Grebe, Chaffinch, Magpie and House Sparrow.

10/02/2014 Croxall

This morning some of the group met at Croxall for a mornings birding I saw - 

Oystercatcher, Teal, Mallard, Canada Goose, Pochard, 10 Redshank, Lapwing, Wigeon, Tufted Duck, Mallard, Robin, Buzzard, Wood Pigeon, Kestrel, Great Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Coot, Cormorant, Blackbird, Magpie, Blue Tit, Crow and Mute Swan. 

After the meeting as I was driving past Wolseley Bridge I saw a Little Egret.

Cannock Chase

Then it was time for a late lunch I sat in the car eating my butties at Freda’s Grave doing some lazy bird watching and saw - Great Tit, Blue Tit, Coal Tit, Nuthatch, Chaffinch, Magpie, Long-tailed Tit, Dunnock, Bullfinch, Blackbird, Robin, Yellowhammer, Wood Pigeon and Pheasant.  As the rain showed no sign of stopping I headed home.

This morning we all went in search of the Great grey Shrike but we had no luck but I did see -

Raven, Jay, Brambling, Chaffinch, Blackbird, Robin, Goldfinch, Redpoll, Coal Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Crow, Magpie and Wood Pigeon.

After lunch at Marquis Drive I added a Treecreeper.

Over at Wolseley Bridge SWT  I saw Goosander and Barnacle Goose.

And finally at Freda’s Grave Grave  I added Jackdaw, Bullfinch, Pheasant and Buzzard.

I saw - Great Tit, Blue Tit, Chaffinch, Nuthatch, Great crested Grebe, Goldeneye, Cormorant, Grey Heron, Tufted Duck, Coot, Mute Swan, Black-headed Gull, Pochard, Gadwall, Scaup, Wren, Pheasant, Tree Sparrow, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Dunnock, Lapwing, Shoveler, Wigeon, Long-tailed Tit, Teal, Canada Geese, Snipe, Buzzard, Crow, Wood Pigeon, Treecreeper, Robin, Moorhen, Blackbird, Magpie and a Tawny Owl roosting in an Ivy covered tree.

I thought today was going to be a waste of time with all the fog I drove through! but it was fairly clear at the water park. I was checking the Bird sightings Blogs and saw that the Glossy Ibis was back so went off to try again and saw  3 Mistle thrushes, Magpie, 4 Teal, Crow, Buzzard, Pied Wagtail, Wood Pigeon and 3rd time lucky one Glossy Ibis.

We decided to go to look for the glossy Ibis again at Brownhills and we saw- 2 Mistle Thrushes, Jay, Green Woodpecker, Pied Wagtail, 1 pr Teal, Magpie, Long-tailed Tit, Robin and Red Deer. But no Glossy Ibis!

As we approached the Reservoir we were told we had just missed the Great white Egret.  But just as we got to the water we were treated to a flypast by the Great white Egret, also we saw the Great northern Diver and Little Grebe.

As the weather had improved I had a day out birding at Blithfield and saw-

Pied Wagtail, Mallard, Wigeon, Shoveler, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Teal, Wren, Blackbird, Crow, Goosander, Coot, Great crested Grebe, Black-headed Gull, Cormorant, Buzzard, Mute Swan, Chaffinch, Canada Geese, Wood Pigeon, Rook, Nuthatch, Gadwall, Pheasant, Long-tailed Tit, Jackdaw, Mistle Thrush, Coal Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Lapwing, Great black-backed Gull, Robin, Magpie, Redwing, Fieldfare, Moorhen, Dunnock, Grey Heron, Goldeneye, Lesser black-backed Gull and a Great Northern Diver.

Cannock Chase

Then it was over to Cannock Chase to look for the Great grey Shrike, but we had no luck! But did see- Great spotted Woodpecker, Meadow Pipit, Wren, Nuthatch, Blue Tit, Magpie, Chaffinch, Robin and Long-tailed Tit.
